This section explains what orthodontics is and goes into detail
about the various types of braces.
Orthodontics is a specialist form of dentistry which
aims to straighten the teeth to produce a healthier bite. Although
more and more adults are having braces, the majority of patients
are in their teens.
Treatment can be completed anywhere between 6 to 18
months, depending on the actual treatment required. Some cases take
longer, due to the complexities involved. The orthodontist will
explain your course of treatment to you. |

At Apollo Clinic, Thane the aim is to give the best possible solution in the shortest possible time with the least number of visits. |
For those who are visiting India for the specific purpose of getting the braces treatment to be done. there are at present, two ways things can be worked out for you. One, you can get the braces put here and follow it up with an orthodontist in your country. As all the materials used are of the top international companies used worldwide, there will never be any doubt about the quality of braces put on the teeth. A detailed case report along with the records and details of the treatment procedure carried out, is handed over to the patient for reference of the orthodontist who will be following up the case. Two, you can get the braces put here and make it a point to follow up with us on a regular basis. Normally, all orthodontic cases are checked up every 4 to 6 weeks. However, if prior intimation is given, and the situation permits, a follow up at an interval of 8 to 12 weeks is also possible. So, if your case can be treated the said manner, you need to see us once every three months. A third option is being worked upon. A network of orthodontists around the world is being established who can treat and/or follow up cases started by either of them on any part of the globe. Till the same is in place the above two options are always there to help you out of your orthodontic miseries!! The co-operation of the individual is paramount when it comes to orthodontic treatment. It becomes all the more critical when, the orthodontist will be nowhere near your teeth for a long time. So please help us in giving you a better smile, by, simply, following instructions.

| The Starting Point |
Mostly, orthodontic treatment begins with a referral from a general dentist to a specialist. However, with the awareness of dental irregularities on the rise, patients these days, do walk in with the specific demand of getting braces put on their teeth, to get their teeth “straightened out”. A thorough investigation follows – model of teeth are prepared, x ray pictures & face & teeth pictures are taken. The records compiled are studied & analysed and it's only then that the definitive treatment plan is made available. |
Teeth problems which need braces:-
- Protruding upper front teeth - one of the most common de\ntal
problems
- Crowding – a narrow jaw may mean there is not enough room
for your teeth, resulting in crowding.
- Spacing - gaps between their teeth
- Asymmetry– teeth have drifted or the position of the jaw has shifted.
- A deep bite – when your upper teeth cover the lower teeth
too much
- A reverse bite – when your upper teeth bite inside the
lower teeth
- An open bite – when your front teeth remain apart when
your back teeth meet; the tongue is often still visible between
the upper and lower front teeth.
- Impacted teeth -
in some patients, permanent teeth do not erupt at all.

Orthodontic treatment can help bring these teeth into the correct position.
Many a cases , teeth need to be brought in a better position with braces, before any denture or bridge can be given to the patient.
Types of Braces:-
Having braces doesn't mean the end of your social life. With more and more people
having braces, you won't be the odd one out if your dentist feels that you ought to have them too. This section explains what orthodontics is and goes into detail about the various types of braces. There are two basic types of orthodontic appliances (braces). One, which is fixed onto the teeth of the patient, and, cannot be removed by the patient –“ The Fixed Braces ”. The other type of orthodontic appliance is one which can be removed by the patient himself/herself – “ The Removable Braces ”
|
| In addition to the above mentioned three
types, another type of braces has gained popularity in the last few
years though it's been there for quite some time. – Invisible
Braces. The reason the braces are ‘invisible' so to say
- Is because the braces instead of being stuck on the outside visible
surface of the tooth, are stuck on the inside surface of the tooth.
However there are certain limitations. |
| REMOVABLE BRACES |
| There is a wide variety of appliances which
can be put under a common group of Removable Braces. As a Retainer
, to hold the teeth in a corrected position after the fixed braces
treatment is over. If, however, small movement of teeth is required,
certain springs and screws are added to the removable braces to get
the teeth in a better position. |
